Meet Our Board
John R. Krauss, PT, Ph.D., OCS, FAAOMPT, KEOMPT
President, Co-founder
Dr. Krauss is a Professor in the School of Health Sciences at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, and an international instructor at KEOMT International, a global educational organization in Switzerland. Dr. Krauss earned a Baccalaureate of Science in Physical Therapy (PT) (Oakland University (OU), 1990), an Orthopedic Manipulative Therapy Certification (ISOMT, 1994), a Graduate Certificate in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy (OMPT) (OU, 1995), a Master of Science in PT (Oakland University, 1995), and a Ph.D. in PT (Nova Southeastern University, 2005). In addition, Professor Krauss is a Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist (since 1997) through the American Physical Therapy Association and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists.
Professor Krauss’ teaching (30 years) and practice (32 years) specialty focus on orthopedics and orthopedic manual therapy applied to all areas of the body. He was recognized for his excellence in clinical education through the APTA MI chapter in 1999 and received the teaching excellence award from Oakland University in 2017.
Dr. Krauss is recognized as an International Instructor by the Kaltenborn-Evjenth Orthopedic Manual Therapy (KEOMT) International organization. Dr. Krauss serves as the Vice President for KEOMT International and as the coordinator of the OMPT Program at Oakland University. In addition to his extensive teaching history at Oakland University, Dr. Krauss has presented at the state, national, and international levels and authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed papers, books, and book chapters. Dr. Krauss’ primary research focuses on the efficacy of manual therapy and orthopedic intervention in managing spinal and extremity disorders across the lifespan.
Michael N. Fahmy, PT, DPT, KEOMPT

Michael is the founder and CEO of OMPT Specialists physical therapy company in southeast Michigan. Michael has an extensive knowledge of orthopedic manual therapy and business management experience in the outpatient physical therapy market. Michael also sits on the medical Board for Moveup.care (European company dedicated to improving the patient, therapist and physicians communication). Michael also sits on the board of several charities, St. Joseph Family support, OMPT foundation and St. Mark Coptic orthodox church Board of Deacons.
Christie Booth Smith, PT, DPT, KEOMPT

Dr. Christie Smith is a licensed physical therapist in Michigan, South Carolina, and North Carolina. She has practiced in an outpatient orthopedic clinic since 2012, where she specializes in manual therapy. Dr. Smith completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science at Western Michigan University in 2008 and her Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree at Oakland University in 2011. She received her Graduate Certificate in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy (OMPT) from Oakland University in 2014. Dr. Smith has been a teaching assistant and guest lecturer in Oakland University’s DPT Program since 2013 and OMPT Program since 2014. In the clinic she has been able to mentor DPT and OMPT students throughout her career. Dr. Smith is recognized as an International Instructor by the Kaltenborn-Evjenth Orthopedic Manual Therapy (KEOMT) International organization. She has presented at the state and international level and has co-authored a book chapter and multiple peer-reviewed lab manuals. In 2022 she received the Outstanding Clinician Award from the American Physical Therapy Association Michigan chapter.
Lindsay Brandt, PT, DScPT, KEOMPT, ACSM-CEP

Dr. Brandt is an Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, where she teaches in the entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy program and the Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy residency. Lindsay is a certified International Instructor with Kaltenborn-Evjenth Orthopedic Manual Therapy International. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Central Michigan University in 2005, and became certified as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist (American College of Sports Medicine) in 2006. Dr. Brandt completed her graduate degrees from Oakland University, including a Doctorate in Physical Therapy (2011), Graduate Certificate in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy (2014), and Doctor of Science in Physical Therapy (2021).
During her 17 years of practice in the rehabilitation field Dr. Brandt has worked in a variety of settings including outpatient orthopedics, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, and clinical weight management. Her primary area of clinical specialty is orthopedics, having worked with patients across the lifespan to manage a variety of orthopedic injuries and conditions.
In addition to teaching and clinical work, Dr. Brandt has presented scholarly work at the state, national and international levels. She also co-authored a 10-month Pilates instructor certification program that teaches instructors to deliver safe and enjoyable exercise programming for healthy clients and for those with chronic musculoskeletal conditions. Dr. Brandt’s primary research interests include manual therapy and exercise interventions to manage spine and rib cage function across clinical populations, and mechanisms to support patient self-management of chronic health conditions through accessible patient education strategies and collaboration with fitness professionals.
Martin Langaas, PT, OMT, FAAOMPT, KEOMPT

Martin is Co-Founder and Director of the Institute of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy (IOMT) and an international instructor at KEOMT International, a global educational organization in Switzerland. He graduated in 1982 from the Physical Therapy College in Berlin, Germany, and after graduation, returned to Norway to attend the National Norwegian Fellowship Program. He trained extensively with Olaf Evjenth and Freddy Kaltenborn, the developers of the Kaltenborn/Evjenth Orthopaedic Manual Therapy System. Martin completed the Fellowship Program and obtained his OMT certification in 1989, moving shortly thereafter to the United States.
About Martin: He founded and opened the IOMT in Woburn, Massachusetts. In conjunction with Orthopedics Plus and Winchester Hospital, Martin has been leading and teaching at the IOMT since 1991. he also serves as their Co-Director of Clinical Education. Martin now operates IOMT out of the Professional Physical Therapy Woburn, MA Location and utilizes the Professional Physical Therapy network for clinical sites for supervised patient care.
Since 1991, Martin has also lectured and presented workshops throughout the United States. In 2007, The American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT) presented Martin a prestigious award in recognition of Outstanding Instruction in a Post-Professional Clinical Education Fellowship Program. Martin’s goal has always been to assist developing therapists in bridging and integrating academic knowledge with daily clinical practice. Martin also owns and operates a private practice, Langaas Spine Care, in York, ME.
